Historic Computer Design and O/S Properties

A Wikipedia View Of Computer History
(History of computing hardware (1960s–present))
(History of operating systems)

A Computer is the best informational tool that can be accessed in public domains and with the extensive growth of new technologies there are several common O/S(operating systems) programs that are still foregoing major design changes.
With this post I hope to share some access to the common users that are interested in the history of the various O/S systems .
The first on my list is from Linux /Unix and I have had some experience with this freeware but found it just a bit confusing to understand the way it is put together .
The support for this O/S is great but I already had the windows XP on my system which worked great but I found that the O/S add ons where getting to expensive for my liking . However I tried to make my system work better it seemed the time to download updates was starting to really slow me down on daily tasks because some updates from Microsoft required a restart of my system.
Now I found that Microsoft had an update which helps with switching from windows XP to a Linux O/S which I could install on a separate hard drive (when I had 2) and the first I chose was Kubuntu because of the graphics and seemingly ease of use and speed as well as the graphics being so different then what I was used to with the XP O/S. I had figured at the time that I would be done with the constant updates and restarts that Xp was getting until I was notified of the Kubuntu Upgrade from 9 to 10 and that took approximately 3 hours to finish and then Crashed . After a reboot and switch to the Kubuntu O/S it was really good after it restructured with the new Upgrade. Then came the task of getting some components installed Like music and Internet which was a problem for my wireless connection but it did auto connect to wired Dsl and the windows media player will not work because of compatibility issues. Overall I found Kubuntu Quite clean and well structured to find the functions I required Except the periodic crashes due to its 64 bit requirement and my system was only a 32 bit .
Now after finding a little more out about Kubuntu and similar crash reports I decided to change to the Ubuntu 10.04 because it was already passed its beta design and was more stable than the Kubuntu O/S and that was Really quick and quite easy to use.

Some History of Linux is fully described by the following Author: David A. Wheeler Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 by David A. Wheeler
v3.010, 3 March 2003 This book provides a set of design and implementation guidelines for writing secure programs for Linux and Unix systems. Such programs include application programs used as viewers of remote data, web applications (including CGI scripts), network servers, and setuid/setgid programs. Specific guidelines for C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, and Ada95 are included. For a current version of His book, see:

Unfortunately I no longer use Ubuntu O/S due to a computer hard drive or outdated laptop issue which was rebuilt when I purchased it over a year ago. I have tried many computers since I became somewhat knowledgeable of the uses with personal computers but also have a lot of experience from a DATA point server at a place of employment some years ago which included the wiring of and setup of the 35 terminals that were used throughout the plant. I have owned 4 computers since starting out and the newest was from Dell at approximately $1700 dollars with a one year warranty about 8 years ago.
That computer was destroyed from a severe lightning storm and I have never wanted to purchase new again so I finally bought a rebuilt HP nc8000 laptop with a wireless package deal for around $250 and reprogrammed it and added a second drive for storage space for the Windows XP Pro O/S and the eventual addition of Ubuntu 10.04. This system was at its top condition and very clean (no security problems)but due to the constant use and the age of the laptop it started to fry the hard drives and I had to implement a thrown together desk top with only 19 GB of hard drive space with Windows XP Pro. With this current system I am able to maintain 12 running web sites and keep the system clear of virus and registry errors with continuous use.
I currently have the Perfect Optimizer and Windows Defender as well as Bit Defenders Quick Scan Plug in to maintain its performance. One component I would like to add is the Diskeeper program which can automatically optimize the hard disk space but it creates an issue with just 19GB and the programs I currently use for the online business.
My next post on this site will continue about operating systems and there history starting with the Apple/Mac O/S, until then I hope you enjoy the Linux/Unix links and downloads.
